SAE Device Codes are the Official Lamp Descriptions

Both the Grote and Truck-lite catalogs show the SAE code indicating the approved lighting function for any lamp.

These codes are described next to the abbreviation "FMVSS". When looking at a catalog page the SAE code may be helpful in more fully defining a lamp's function. For the description of each SAE device code see this list.

Grote's Three Lines of LED lamps

As LED has evolved, Grote has created several levels of lamps: Select, Hi Count, and Supernova for all lighting functions. Grote “Select” LED lamps are basic LED replacements for incandescent lamps with two benefits. “Select” lamps can use the existing incandescent pigtails for an easy upgrade where the standard has always been female connectors on the lamps and male pigtails. “Select” lamps also come with a 2-year warranty when they are installed with Grote’s UBS pigtails.

Grote “Hi Count” LED lamps also are compatible with existing incandescent pigtails but this line of lamps goes further to push the envelop for visibility and styling by adding extra diodes.

Grote “Supernova” lamps exploit all of the advantages of LED technology by abandoning compatibility with incandescent connectors among other developments. Male pins on the lamps enhance the security of electrical connections and brass terminals maximize corrosion protection. “Supernova” lamps with male pins come with a 10-year warranty. The Supernova lamps fulfill all of the design goals of Grote's Ultra Blue Shield (UBS) wiring advancements.

Grote continues to offer entry level incandescent lamps in their "Economy" line with an upgraded incandescent lamp represented by the "Torsion Mount" line.
